Mr. Barrett, an associate, has experience in environmental law issues going back to 1991.  He has assisted clients on environmental law matters concerning hazardous substance and waste issues and compliance issues regarding state and federal environmental statutes and regulations. Mr. Barrett has represented clients in environmental permitting matters, enforcement actions, Superfund (CERCLA) matters, and civil actions including toxic tort and property damage cases. Additionally, Mr. Barrett has represented clients in corporate and real estate transactions.

Mr. Barrett has practiced civil litigation since 1995, specializing initially in the areas of commercial and insurance defense, and later focusing on cases involving environmentally-impacted properties. Mr. Barrett has represented his clients in many diversified areas, including:

  • Environmental contamination and remediation
  • CERCLA, RCRA and the Texas Solid Waste Disposal Act,
  • Environmental consultant liability
  • Professional malpractice in a variety of practice areas including: real estate, corporate/transactional, estate planning, bankruptcy, family law, employment law, and audit and claims handling
  • Premises liability
  • Personal injury
  • Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act
  • Foundation defects

Mr. Barrett received his law degree in 1991 from The University of Texas School of Law, and his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1988. Mr. Barrett is admitted to the Bar in Texas and is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Texas.

While at The University of Texas School of Law, Mr. Barrett received the American Jurisprudence Award in Constitutional Law. Mr. Barrett authored “Professional Malpractice Under Texas Law,” Texas Torts Handbook, (James Publishing, 1998). He has presented the following lectures: “Tips to Avoiding Liability for Insurance Adjusters and Agents,” presented at Insurance Agent and Adjuster Liability Seminar (July 17, 1999); and “Attorney Malpractice,” presented at Professional Liability in Texas Seminar (November 14, 1998).
